Visiting Milan - Northern Italy

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele - Milano

“Milan is striking, the cathedral superb”

Lord Byron, October 15th - 1816

(Letters and Journals)

We like to imagine Milan as a charming, elegant and understated Lady with a thousand-year old history but ahead in time.

She is famous monuments and hidden gems, glamourous fashion, cutting-edge design and delicious food but Milan is also tradition, as everything happens in “the shadow of the Madonnina”. (Simo)

So, if you are planning a visit, not certain about what to do and see, where to stay or how to experience and discover this city, we will be glad to design your itinerary/tour.

Suggested itineraries

Milano by Art:

Milan is a city with museums. While they might not be as famous as the ones in Flornce or Rome, you can still see Leonardo da Vinci's Atlantic Codex, paintings by famous artists like Pier Della Francesca and Hayez. There are also small museums that were once private homes. These museums display collections from Milan's noble families from the past.

The museums are:

  • Brera’s Art Gallery

  • Ambrosiana, Art Gallery, Library and Academy

  • Royal Palace, Fine Art Exhibition space

  • Villa Necchi Campiglio, 20th Century Historic House

  • Palazzo Morando, 18th Century Historic House

  • Museo Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi, Historic House

  • Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Historic House

  • Museo del Duomo (The Cathedral’ Museum)

  • Museo Teatro alla Scala

Milano by landmarks:

Milan was originally a Roman city called Mediolanum, meaning "in the middle of the plain." After being invaded by barbarian populations, it became the city-state of the Sforza family during the Medici era in Florence. Leonardo da Vinci lived there for 17 years. After being invaded and dominated by the Spanish, French, and Austrians, Milan became a free city in 1861. Although the city preserves few Roman ruins, it is an incredible testament to its past as a Sforza city. The castle is the greatest testament to this.

The most important landmarks are:

  • Sforzesco Castel

  • Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci

  • Basilica di Sant’Amborgio

  • Duomo di Milano (The Cathedral)

  • La Scala, Opera Theatre

  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele & Walkways on the roof.

Milano by Fashion & Design:

Over the years, Milan has become the city of fashion, hosting the most famous catwalks and serving as home to the most renowned designers of our time. The heart of the city is home to the "fashion district," where the most famous stores are located. However, for those of us who live in Milan, there are many other stores that sell tasteful, high-quality clothing from lesser-known designers. Milan hosts the largest design fair, transforming itself and showcasing cutting-edge design everywhere, as well as big names that have redesigned our homes.

An important note:

Milan is strategically located and serves as a hub for reaching many other destinations, as well as being the starting point for our tours.
